Event Abstract:

Expanding the Scope of Behavior Analysts’ Impact

Many behavior analysts express frustration that behavior analysis is not addressing many of the problems that our communities face.  Values to Action was created to translate the enormous body of knowledge about what human beings need to thrive into effective action in our communities. More than 200 people have joined Values to Action to advance this goal. This talk will describe the action circles that Values to Action has created and the way in which they are assisting communities in addressing numerous problems that undermine well-being. Our projects include getting behavioral services for persons with disabilities established in hospitals and clinics, reducing disparities in reading proficiency, reforming juvenile justice, increasing nurturance in communities, implementing social emotional learning in schools, and preventing the undermining of democracy. My hope in giving this talk is that Values to Action can forge an alliance with behavior analysts in Oregon –as we have done with more than a hundred behavior analysts around the country—that enable us to expand your opportunities to address our many problems and to increase the impact of your work in Oregon.
