Parent support is arguably the most crucial component to significantly improving the

lives of families receiving ABA services. Behavior Analysts have a responsibility to their

clients to act in their best interest, practice within their scope of competence, and

maintain their competence in ways related to how they choose to practice. With the new

wave of popular parenting styles and strategies swarming media platforms overloading

parents with information on how to manage behaviors, it takes practice to find a happy

medium between recommending evidence-based strategies supported by the field of

ABA and supporting parents in a way that makes them feel supported. The time is now

to have a real conversation about how to truly support parents in ways that are

beneficial to the families receiving ABA services, sustainable for practicing clinicians to

confidently maintain their responsibilities and ethics, and continue improving the lives of

everyone involved for the longevity of our field.
